Trainers you can wear all day

A buying guide from Lurevela London

The trainers you can put on at eight and forget about by ten.

Four reasons these are the pair you will actually reach for.

Most women own two kinds of shoe. The ones that look right, and the ones they can walk in. Our best-selling trainers exist because there is no good reason those have to be two different pairs. Soft uppers, room across the toes and a sole that gives underfoot — in a shape you can wear to the shops without looking like you are on your way to the gym.

Elsa orthopedic suede trainers, wide fit
The Elsa, in suede. Wide fit, and no breaking-in period.

1

The sole does the work your feet used to

Every pair in this collection sits on a padded, shock-absorbing sole with a little more depth under the heel. You notice it late in the day rather than early — after a morning standing on hard floors, or an afternoon on pavement. There is a real difference between standing on something that gives and standing on something that does not.

2

Room where the foot is widest

Most trainers narrow to a shape few feet actually are. These are cut with extra space through the toe and forefoot, so the toes sit side by side and nothing digs in across the joint. If you have a bunion, a wide foot, or simply a foot that has had enough of being squeezed, that is the part that matters.

Amelia, in off-white. Straight across the front, with room over the joint.
3

Light enough that you stop noticing them

The uppers are soft and breathable rather than stiff and structured, so they give where the foot needs it instead of pressing back. Nothing to break in, no rubbing at the spot where a new pair usually leaves its mark. Most of ours lace once and then go on and off like a slip-on, which matters more than it sounds if fiddly fastenings have stopped being worth the trouble.

One pair covers most of the week

A plain shape in a soft colour goes with nearly everything — jeans, trousers, a plain dress, a work fleece. White and beige lift an outfit rather than arguing with it; black and navy disappear into one. Most of the collection comes in several, so you can buy the quiet one and the one you actually want.

Against the trainers you have been buying

Most high-street trainers

  • Need breaking in, and blister while they do
  • Narrow through the toes, tight across the joint
  • A thin flat insole with nothing underfoot
  • Sporty enough that they only go with jeans
  • Heavy and warm by the end of the afternoon

Our trainers

  • Soft, light upper that gives from the first wearing
  • Extra room through the toe and forefoot
  • Padded, shock-absorbing sole
  • Plain enough to wear with anything
  • Lace them once and step in and out

Getting the size right

Our trainers run UK 4 to UK 7.5, including half sizes, and are cut true to size — order the size you normally take. If you are between sizes, or have a wide foot, take the larger of the two and pull the laces snug. Every pair has fit guidance on its own page, so you can see before you order whether it runs small, large or true.
